A mindset is a view you have on yourself as a learner, and this view affects the way you put effort towards learning. There are two very important mindsets each person is defined as. There is having a growth mindset, and having a fixed Someone with a growth mindset believes intelligence can be developed throughout time. Someone with a fixed mindset believes that intelligence is a fixed trait. Dr. Carol Dweck is a psychologist at Stanford University. In the article, Teachers, Parents Often Misuse Growth Mindset Research , Carol Dweck Says (Carol Dweck), Dweck believes that your mindset was formed when you were a lot younger and it has been affecting the way you learn ever since. She argues, “adults can, instead, help foster a "growth mindset" – the belief that the brain is like a muscle that can grow stronger through hard work.” I agree with Dr. Carol Dweck because I always used to get good grades on my tests, but was not being told the right things due to that the failure hurt me dramatically.
It started off freshmen year of high school. I was in my advanced math class, and the class was going easy. I was also doing very well on the tests, and I was always being told my professor that I was very smart. My peers would look at me and say,”Wow Defrim you are really smart always get perfect scores”. Dweck says, “it's harmful to tell your kids that they're smart because when they eventually do struggle in school, they might think they're not so smart after all. Ultimately, they become afraid of challenges and less resilient when faced with obstacles”. That is exactly what was occurring here. I was being told very “fixed minded” words. As time went by we kept taking test, and I kept being told I was smart. I felt very good about myself, and wasn't afraid of taking test. Failing never crossed my mind. One day I received a test and I had gotten a 64 percent. When I received this I felt as if there was a mistake. This can not be my test. This has to be a joke. Students found out that I got a 64 and they stopped looking up to me like they used too. This dropped my self esteem and the way i felt about the class very low. I did not want to come back to class. Few days later we had another test, and when I received it the thought of me failing again was in my head. Again I failed the test. Before I was not scared to take tests, but now I was petrified. The thought of failing was always on my mind, and I became an awful test taker. Every test I got I would always fail and do bad on it due to this. That is why I believe the way you praise a kid can go a long way to his future. Dweck suggests using phrases such as, “Wow, you really practiced that, and look how you've improved." "See, you studied more and your grade on this test is higher." "You tried different strategies and you figured out how to solve the problem." "You stuck to this and now you really understand it". Phrases like these put a student in the right attitude to keep wanting to learn, and achieve more. Also, they will understand that from failure you just learn, and it makes easier for next time around. Therefore this is why I agree with Carol Dweck that teachers, parents, and others have to use the proper language to help a child get that growth mindset. With a growth mindset you can achieve more, and strive for more because of your willingness to gain more knowledge.

Who did I work with to compose my hiraeth project? Was this a good approach?
I worked alone on my hiraeth project. It felt like it was a good approach because I got the work done. The only issue is that I waited till the last minute. I need to change that process fast, and start on it the second I get an assignment. What was the most difficult part of my writing process? Why? What did I do to overcome the obstacles? The most difficult part of my writing process was deciding on what I was going to write about. There are many homes I wish I could go back to or have it was hard to pick one and focus on it. I overcame this obstacle by ranking my top 5 hiraeths, and choosing the first one. When did I write this project? Good approach? I waited till the night before to write it. It was not a good approach, and I am very disappointed with myself. I need to change with the way I write my next paper, and start on it right when I get it. Do little by little and get it done at the end. Where did I write this project? Good approach? I wrote my paper at my girlfriends house. It wasn't a bad approach at all. I was in a quiet office with coffee and was ready to get it done, and I did so. Why did I choose to write about my chosen hiareth? I choose to write about my hiraeth because it was a very memorable moment. I want to go back to having that same feeling, and see the proud look on my parents faces. The feeling of excitement inside me was the best feeling ever. How will I adapt/revise my writing process for future revision of the hiraeth assignment? For the future of my writing I want to take care of things immediately. I want to start on my paper rght away, and work on it over time. This will help my time management skills, and it will help me write a better paper. Other than that I believe my process was good, I just need to work right away. The most powerful tool you have in your body is your mind. Therefore, I choose My ability and competence grow with my effort (Growth Mindset) as to be the most important mindset to achieve academic success. If you are willing to increase your academic knowledge you will be better than the student next to you. How do you look at failure? Failure is a step forward not a step backwards. If you fail you learn, and do better the next time. Will there be a next time? That's all on you. You can answer that questions once you fail. The fear of failure is what stops people from their dreams. We come up with excuses to make it alright. Most people want to do things they can do well. Someone with a growth mindset will just keep learning no matter how boring or how electrifying. Don't wait for the opportunity to learn and get better. It can be pain full it will be uncomfortable but that's where the growth happen. You are a human. Not a tree, not a dog, and you are not a bus. You have control of changing your life. Millions of people will leave this place without us knowing who they were. They take their inventions to the grave. Its your stuff. Get better, learn, and do not be afraid to ask questions. You have to say "yes!" to homework, to books, to professors, and to your dreams. By willing to learn you will become stronger than the others. Don't let failure scare you. It is easier to watch and see greatness. That's why you average. Nothing changes about you. Don't be average. Be phenomenal, and pick up the books and get on the knowledge grind. This isn't for everyone. This is for people who are willing to grow and gain more knowledge. Run after your destiny, and don't let failure be a step backward make it a Step Forward.
In the article, Teachers, Parents Often Misuse Growth Mindset Research , Carol Dweck Says (Carol Dweck), Carol Dweck shows us how a child becomes a fixed learner because of what is happening around them. Parents shouldn't always tell their children and praise the on how smart they are because it is going to hurt them in the end. In a similar article, The Perils of "Growth Mindset Education" [...] (Alfie Kohn), Alfie Kohn takes us on a similar journey on how we should change the system. We should fix the system and not try to fix the kids. They need to be on their own don't praise them by what they always do well. Let them go through mistakes because mistakes its how will make them better. A fixed mindset is someone who is set on they know it all, and does not like to show any signs of weakness. They don't ask any questions. A growth mindset is someone who is determined to get it done, and will do anything to do it. They always stay sharping the saw. They love gaining knowledge, and try to be the best. As for me depending on my academic environment I believe I have a growth mindset. I just want to gain knowledge and get smarter. Knowledge is power. A key factor that steps in here is motivation. Are you motivated enough to get the work done? Are you willing to give up hours of your free time to become smarter? You have to be able to be on top of your game at all time. People with growth mindsets sacrifice more, and due to that they achieve more. People with a growth mindset see themselves as a seed just placed under soil. They look at water as knowledge. A seed needs water to grow, and we need knowledge to grow. You can always gain more knowledge. Knowledge doesn't have a limit, so go out there and have a growth mindset. Grow and be the best.
I have a lot of favorite childhood memories. Most of my childhood memories occur when I lived in Albania. My family has this big garden in front of our house. On one day during the week usually Sundays my whole would get together and work on the garden, and make it look neat. My dad, mom, uncles, aunts, and cousins would all come together and work hard to make it look good. One day, it was very sunny. The sun was so bright it hurt to go outside, but it was a Sunday. My dad said it was the perfect day to work on the garden as a family, so we gathered everyone. We all got together, and got all of our tools set up to start making the yard look good. My dad and mom took care of making sure all flowers were watered and everything looked clean and neat. My uncles were in control of trimming the bushes we had surrounding the big yellow house, and they had to make sure it was all trimmed at exactly the same size. My cousins were in control of taking care of all trash and the whole mess that was left afterwards. My brother and I owned our very own cherry trees. These two big cherry trees watched over the rest of the garden. We had to water the tree, trim it, make it look good, and also pick out as many cherries as we could. My favorite part was climbing the big tall tree, and competing with my brother on who could pick the most cherries. Cherries were so big and red it hurt your mouth not try one. We would each fill up a bucket of cherries and clean up the whole mess. After we were all done, we would head inside and eat the the delicious cherries. It was the most refreshing thing in the world after a nice hard working day on the garden. We would wait till everyone finished their job, and then we would bring the bucket of cherries out. We would all make a big circle and share what happened during the week and if we had any interesting funny stories to tell. It was my favorite part because it was late at night, and we would all drink soda eat cherries, and share stories. I wish I could go back to those days.
My initial understanding of the term hiraeth was a home which I have always wanted or a home which I have wanted to go back too. Being at home is very important to everyone, and they need to feel right in the place their in. At first, my initial understanding was to write about a person that makes me feel at home, "Home is where ever I'm with you", so I decided to write about my girlfriend. She means the world to me, and I really love being around her because I feel like myself, and I am very happy. When I am with her it's like no one else exists as corny as that sounds its true. I don't know I just feel as if I have no worry in the world. Like everything could be going bad, but when I look at her eyes its as if they say everything is going to be alright. It makes me feel so good inside. It makes me feels safe. It just feels as if that's where I belong for the rest of my life. I get it I'm 19 how can I be in "love" I honestly couldn't tell ya, but I know I am. I didn't what love was till I actually first met this woman, and now I love her with all my heart every second of everyday. I'm a tough guy I really am, but when you bring her into the conversation I will be the softest person you know. I don't know what it is but her name, her touch, her voice, her look, and her talk is like a button in my heart that just flicks and makes me feel some type of way. Her hair is so curly and so big and brown, and it smells like coconuts. Her hair hangs down to the middle of her back and gets in the way of her face at times. She has these cute little baby hairs that stick out near her ears. Her eyes are so green and beautiful it feels as if you can see the galaxy through them. Her jaw line is so sharp and narrow looks so perfect, and her lips are little but yet so full making the perfect heart shape. They are so soft and so red its as if there is no feeling like it in the world when she kisses me. She has the softest voice and she uses it to her advantage to be spoiled. She is a princess. She is my queen. My favorite part of my day is where she makes herself and me coffee and we sit by the fireplace watching movies. The warm cozy feeling of her touch as she holds me tight, and the hot warm coffee going down my throat is the best feeling ever. We watch a lot of movies all different kinds, but mostly romantic comedies. We enjoy watching this genre because it gets us in our "feels". She has such a beautiful unique name and you can spot the Italian side right away from her. She makes the best eggs known to mankind. Everything she touches just ends up being amazing. Valentines Day is soon I hop she likes what I got her. One example of my hiraeth is my beautiful girlfriend and hopefully soon to be wife.
